Mead Johnson Nutritionals' mission is to extend and enhance human life through science-based nutrition. To help achieve that mission, Mead Johnson Nutritionals has established an Independent Medical Education (IME) grant program to support medical education.

Policy Statement
Mead Johnson Nutritionals will consider supporting IME programs and activities designed to enhance the professional skills and knowledge of healthcare providers. Mead Johnson Nutritionals' support of medical, scientific, and medical education is conducted in full compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, industry standards, and industry codes. Mead Johnson Nutritionals' support of medical and scientific education is never intended to induce or reward the purchase, prescription, or recommendation of Mead Johnson Nutritionals' products.

All IME grants and contributions are awarded at Mead Johnson Nutritionals’ sole discretion. Mead Johnson Nutritionals asks that you do not list its name as a sponsor in any published or printed materials until after your grant has been approved.

Program Guidance
The primary focus of funding in 2008 for Independent Medical Education grant requests is infant and pediatric nutrition. Other areas of funding include general education in the areas of 1) premature infant care, 2) term infant care, 3) pediatric care, 4) innovation in understanding the relationship of prenatal and early nutrition to long-term health outcomes, and 5) topics related to metabolic diseases, gut function, and hyperbilirubinemia.

IME grants may be awarded for full or partial funding of specific projects or activities or for a series of programs that occur over a specified period of time. Examples of programs and activities appropriate for potential funding are detailed below.

IME Programs and Activities

IME Conferences include symposia, satellite symposia, conferences, teleconferences, live Web casts, and multi-speaker meetings.
Grand Rounds are programs that have limited budget costs, such as outside speaker travel, lodging, honoraria, and modest meals for all participants.
Creation/Development of IME Enduring Materials encompasses monographs, CD-ROMS, audio recordings, journals, and online CME.

Scholarships

Scholarships are awarded to medical students, residents, fellows in training, and graduate students to attend major educational and scientific meetings.

Patient Education

Patient Education Programs include presentations to a group of patients in the form of a conference, Web cast, videotape, or publication.

Please allow at least three months for the processing of your funding application. Applications submitted less than three months prior to an event may be rejected, due to insufficient time to process.

Download, complete, and save the program costs form.
Gather the following information.
- Federal Tax ID Number for entity to which the IME grant check will be made, if an IME grant is approved
- Federal Tax ID Number of partners, if applicable
- List of partnering organizations, if applicable
- Accreditation information (e.g., copy of accreditation certificate, copy of program with details on accreditation, or the actual accreditation number)
- Organizational information
- Valid e-mail address for communications
- Verification of your role within requesting organization
- Speaker names and affiliations
- Location (facility, city, and state) and date of event
- Agenda/program objectives
Select, complete, and submit the appropriate online application form for your program.
